2 computers, 1 printer, 1 router How do I make them all work together

by mswhip . Updated 14 years, 5 months ago

this is my situation:.
I receive Cable Internet signal from my ISP company. Signal enters my SMC Gateway-Router. With RJ45 cable from the router I feed 2 computers: an ALL-IN-ONE iMAC and a Desktop PC. The router is geographically next to the iMAC. The PC is on the other end of the house one floor below. Both computers are hard wired to the router via RJ45 cables.

The 2 computers are not networked other than what i have just described, but I DO NOT have either control or access of/to one cvomputer from the other one, AND I want to keep them separate as they are now.

I also have a Canon Multifunction Pixma MP-560 (also sitting next to the iMAC) connected to the iMAC via USB Cable and serving it with all its functions.

Here is the help I am asking from you now:. How do I connect the printer to ALSO serve the printing needs from the PC one floor below WHILE maintaining the total separation of both computers otherwise.
In other words how do get the printer to print giving it instructions from the keyboard of the PC computer running Windows 7 Home 64-bit.
(The iMac runs Snow Leopard OS.)

The printer supports both wired and wireless connections. BUT given that I already run wired connections i prefer to connect the printer to the PC through the existing connected cables, unless it would be technically impossible or extremely complicated to set and a wireless setting would be much simpler and effective.

I am in my 60’s so not very savvy on computer related issues., so please if anyone is willing to help, I would really appreciate very simple explanations in layman terms and in point blank 1..2 3.. steps to follow.

I appreciate any help you could provide me with.

Thank you kindly
