802.11n on a Toshiba laptop?

by bob . Updated 15 years, 2 months ago

Greetings all.

I have a couple of Toshiba laptops with the intel xxxxABG wireless chipset (one’s mini-PCI the other’s mini-PCIe).

I’m wondering if anyone has experimented with successfully ripping out their intel cards and replacing them with a drop-in 802.11BGN card.

Searching around I’ve found a few hints that mini-PCI and mini-PCIe cards are available, but the few pics of these cards I’ve seen appear to have the 3 antenna “n” setup whereby the laptop only has 2 antennae. Although technically very capable I’d sooner not have to dismantle the laptop/lcd to try to squeeze a 3rd antenna inside if it’s even possible…

To cut a long story short – has anyone successfully dropped an “n” card (or found one that has 2 antennae connectors) into their toshiba (or any other mini-pci/e machine)?

Or do I need to go with yet another gadget hanging off my usb/pcmcia (God knows I could live without that) and simply disable the internal one?

TIA!

Bob
