Hello everyone,
This my first post on TechRepublic and I apologize if this question seems a bit trivial.
I recently got my hands on a catalyst express 500G-12TC and I am trying to access it based on the documentation.
Basically, the steps are:
1) Switch on the Catalyst
2) Press the setup button
3) The documentation states that I need to plug in a cable into the port that blinks green but since no ports blinked green I plugged it into the first port.
3) I then waited and ran ipconfig in the command prompt. I received the following output
ip address: 169.254.13.57 (sometimes changes when I repeat the above process)
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
default gateway: 0.0.0.0 (Documentation states that I would get a gateway address but I do not)
4) Even though I didn’t receive a gateway I still opened my browser and tried the following IPs just for the heck of it:
169.254.0.1, 169.254.x.1 (depends on what ip address is assigned to me. If I’m assigned 169.254.13.1 I enter 169.254.13.1 and so on and so forth), 0.0.0.0, 10.0.0.1, 192.168.0.1
I’ve tried using both http and https but it still doesn’t work
5) FYI, I’m using vista and I’ve tried both firefox and ie7.
6) I’ve also resetted the switch by following the documentation given. It basically tells me to press the setup button until all LEDs turn amber and then follow the above steps but I’m still unable to access the switch.
I would appreciate any advice you can provide.
