Application Center Test (ACT)

I am part of a QA team testing a desktop application that will be launched over a WAN. It will be accessing an SQL server database via a webservice but the application itself is not web browser based. Is the ACT a good tool to use for load testing an application such as this and if so, does anyone know where I could find a library of ACT definitions for the performance counters? Thanks!
