Are there Mac associations?

Have two computers here that open up the wrong program when you click on a document. Somehow, it got set to open up a version of the program that was on a server. (And no, I didn’t put that on the server) Anyways, I’ve since deleted the program off the server, and now whenever they go to open a document, it gets a program not found error. Each computer has the same program loaded locally, and if they have the open, THEN open the file, it opens just fine. So for some reason it’s associateingthe file types to the wrong program. Anyone know of a way to change where it gets the program from? Thanks.
