ASP vs. PHP

Hi, I am working on a website project that requires dynamic content and database connectivity. I don’t know if I should go with ASP or PHP. So I would like opinions from other experienced developers. I would like to know the pros and cons of each, what hardware/software combination is required, and which database engine is better for each of the two technologies? Thank you for helping me out.
