bad dir/file from scandisk

How can I delete an entry (apparantly from Scandisk) that scandisk won’t “fix”? It reports: C:\DIR00001\55555555.555 is damaged and unusable, but can’t fix it. In fact, scandisk for windows says there’s not enough memory (on this 64Mb machine) even with no other apps running. It won’t let me delete it either. The machine also now seems to be running slowly. Virtual memory problem?, no other indications of HD trouble. All suggestions are welcome. thanks
