I’m helping my parents shop for a new laptop before Windows XP (which they currently have) is sent to pasture. They aren’t the most computer literate (can play games, use the internet, and MS Office/WordPerfect). I want to make this as easy as possible.
I’m looking for the following:
15.6″ size
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
at least 8GB of RAM
a decent graphics card (No Intel Graphics Media Accelerator cards, please!)
Their current laptop is a HP Pavilion 6735b:
AMD Athlon X2 QL-64
2.10 GHz
2 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200
320 GB HD (guessing on the size because I can’t remember)
Windows XP Professional SP3
I know the jump from XP to 7 is intimidating, but I plan on helping them with that. Any insight into this is greatly appreciated as I have no idea what to even look for with them. Thank you! ^_^
PS I know a lot of people are saying “go to Linux” or “get them Windows 8”. I do not want to do either as I’m completely unfamiliar with both of them and I want this to be as easy as possible (I have experience with Windows 7 and an IT degree).
