Recently used a Seagate HD utility to try to check a HD through my PC using an external USB HD device reader. Didn’t change anything … just looked at external drive. Then I exited the program (Dos based btw) or tried to. That’s when my PC just locked up. Had to reboot my PC (running XP Professional) and that’s when the fun started. My PC will not boot now unless I put in a XP Pro install CD… then it boots fine and runs without a problem. If I do not have the XP CD in the PC, then it takes a very long time to tell me that it cannot find bootable media. It hangs up for a long time on the HP logo screen that you normally would see for about 4 seconds… then it goes to the DOS looking screen with that message.
I’ve tried to access the Bios to see what device is first on list to boot from but cannot get into bios at all no matter what key I try. I’ve tried every combination or key with no results… any key I try just takes me to a black screen with a few odd software version numbers and the type of PC… nothing else!
Help!
Any ideas ???? This is an HP Compaq 6000 Pro.
