Bootup Stalls on Windows Splash Screen

by etoile . Updated 21 years, 6 months ago

I am just rebuilding a P4 1.5G machine (Asus P4B mobo) with Windows XP Pro SP2.

All was going well with the installation, but now the systems stalls at the blue WELCOME screen. CTRL/ALT/DEL allows it to continue to load, however, checking the Virtual memory settings under system properties/Advanced/Performance settings/Advanced indicated a paging file size of 0 MB and a System Control Panel Applet pops up advising Windows has created a temporary paging file due to an problem with paging file config…

Selecting CHANGE indicates a custom size initial size equal to the recommended size, but the currently allocated figure won’t change from 0 MB. After a reboot, the problem repeats.

I don’t recall doing anything to alter the virtual memory settings.

Any suggestions, before I format and start again?!
