Broad Band Connection

OS XP Home.
I have lost the 2 monitors icon from the task bar which indicates when on line.I could click on the icon to disconnect from the internet.I have been to Control Panel/Network Connections/Properties/Box is ticked to “Show icon in notification area when connected.Still no Icon.
Help Please.
