C++ vs. Java, et al

During a meeting with a potential investor (not a tech type), the comment was made that a particular application (for both standalone and web) was ‘old fashioned’ since it was written in C++. Since I’m not a ‘programmer’ was this a valid comment? It’s my understanding that C++ is a powerful, up-to-date programming tool. The comment was that ‘it wasn’t very flexible and easy to change, like Java.
