cannot connect to network printer

I cannot connect to network printer. My office have toshiba estudio 256 printer and we usually connect printer to pc by typing \\printer ip address. which shows the printer shared folder and printer icon. By right clicking the printer icon and selecting the connect option the printer get connected to the system. but i cannot connect the same printer by the same steps and give the error like \\printer ip address is not accessible. you might not have permission to use network resources. contact administrator of this system. I can able to ping the ip address of the printer. Please suggest me the solution to this problem.
