cannot open files

I have my old hdd installed to my new pc w/ Win ME2000 as OS. I connect the old hdd as primary slave. The old hd was recognized and I was able to open most of the files in it, but some files particularly office excel cannot be opened. Anybody to guide me on what to do to open those excel files?
