Cannot remove folder <folder name>

I am trying to delete a directory on an NT 4.0 sp6a server. I receive the following error:
Cannot remove folder : There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use.

The directory is not being shared and is empty.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
