CAN’T INSTALL W95

I have an IBM Aptiva pentiumII 450mhz. It came with Win98, and I want Win95 on it. I wiped out 98 and when i go to install 95, i can successfully copy the files over to the hard drive, but after that when i reboot to enter setup, a message appearson a black screen saying “device i/o error, press any key to reboot” and i cant get past this screen. ive tried safe mode, command prompt only, and it always does the same thing. any help would be greatly appreciated.
