Cant open anything to do with Microsoft updates??

For some very annoying reason I cant access Microsoft updates, at all! From programmes on my P.c to google, my browser simply refuses to have anything to do with it. I have run malware programmes, antivirus programmes, searched the web, reinstalled IE8, contacted Microsoft (yeah good idea) changed from IE8 to Safari. Nothing. I did get an error code 0x8024402c once.
I may have changed a setting in my registry, just a wee bell rings but for the life of me cant remember where or if it’s just me grasping at straws.
any help would be greatly appreciated
