HELP! I have a user who is able to open PowerPoint files normally by double clicking a file or opening a file within the application itself, but cannot open PowerPoint (Office 97) files from Internet Explorer (version 6.0). No error message is returned. The hourglass appears briefly, but nothing else happens. The previous website remains in the browser window. This happens regardless of whether it is trying to access a local file, a network drive, or an Internet location. I’ve tried unistalling/reinstalling Office (also used the Eraser utility for this), rolling back IE to version 5.5 and then reinstalling 6.0), deleting/readding the file association. I’ve applied all current patches for OS, browser, and Office. OS is NT 4.0. Other users with same configuration are able to access the exact files as this user. I have ruled out a permissioning issue. I’ve scoured the Internet and haven’t come across any similar issue/fix. Anyone have any ideas to resolve the issue without rebuilding?
