Can’t remove a directory in Win95

I suddenly have directories appearing in Windows95 with the name of c:\dir00001 and I cannot scandisk or remove that directory. Upon running any check (virus or disk check) on the hard drive I find that it halts upon reaching that dir. I have only13 Win95 seats left on my network. 8 have suddenly developed this issue. PLEASE HELP!
