I have Windows ME workstation with an ADSL modem.
My dial up networking connection was working fine to my ISP and then I uninstalled Mcafee Firewall software.
Now I can still connect to my ISP but now can’t resolve any DNS names. I can ping an IP address fine but when I put the IP address into my browser can’t load the web page.
My browser won’t load any websites based on the name and I just get a “page cannot be displayed error”.
If I ping a host name, I get an unknown host error.
I’ve tried uninstalling TCP/IP and the Dial Up Adaptor from My Network Places along with Dial Up Networking and then reinstalling them but same problem.
I’ve confirmed with my ISP that there are no problems with their DNS servers or on there network. I can ping the IP’s of their DNS servers no problem as well.
Any ideas?? There are know no firewall products installed so don’t believe anything is being blocked outbound.
