Changing the Registered Owner

I have a friend that purchased a used laptop, he has all the cd’s that came orginial with the laptop. How can I can the name where it says registered owner, from the previous owner to the present without reloading windows xp back on the system. My friend is happy the way the computer runs, other than when he looks under the device manager it states the previous owner’s name instead of his name.
