client/server enterprise database

I have multiple sites that will need to share a SQL database. The sites are connected via 4 channels of a T1 (256K). The database currently resides on one NT server at one site. How would all users at all sites be able to use this database without increasing the bandwith? If replication is the answer, how does this work?
