computer browsers wont search with search engines

Hi,

i have IE7 and firefox 3.0.

i can go to websites when i put the specific address in the navigation toolbar but when i try to search in google , yahoo etc
then nothing happens. do i have a virus or what is the specific problem.

can anyone help me.
