Computer not found – using TCP/IP

by fred c. tucker . Updated 25 years, 6 months ago

Using only 2 computers, both with WIN98 SE. Cabled directly with a UTP crossover cable. The desktop is connected to ADSL with one ethernet card, and to the home LAN using another ethernet card. When using NetBEUI or IPX/SPX, the home LAN works without a problem. Since Internet Sharing is to be used, TCP/IP is necessary. Once the TCP/IP is added and IP addresses 192.168.0.x are used – both computers will see each other in the Network Neighborhood. The desktop can access the shares of the laptop, but the laptop (when clicking on the Desktop icon in Network Neighborhood) cannot access the shares. A computer not found message is given. This only happens with TCP/IP. NetBEUI and IPX/SPX work fine! I need to get TCP/IP working – any help would be greatly appreciated.
