Connecting SQL Server 2000 with Visual Basic 6.0 and Crystal Report 9

Hi!
I have a problem regarding to my thesis application. I used Visual Basic 6 as my PL and MS SQL Server 2000 as my remote server database.
Every time I run my projects It has an error message:

Connectin Failed:
SQLState: ‘01000’
SQL Server Error: 53
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen(Connect()).
Connection failed:
SQLState: ‘08001’
SQL Server Error:17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

what is this error means?
