connecting to IE from an e-mail

I think I have lost a file or something that will allow me to click on an address in an e-mail and take me to that web site. I click on it and nothing happens. I have uninstalled outlook and reinstalled with no luck. Does anyone have a fix for me? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
