Copying “create time” attribute on files

This may be a real dumb question, but I’d appreciate if someone knows a fix for this. I have a folder full of old files that I want to copy to a new location. But I’ve discovered when I copy them, Windows 98 (and perhaps other OSs as well, but this is the one I use) changes the file’s “created” timestamp to the current date and time. Maybe it’s done this all the time (and in a way, it kind of makes sense, because the file is being “recreated”) but I would prefer it if all the “created” dates remained as they were, so that in the absence of any other indication in the file itself, I can accurately judge how old it is.
Does anybody know of a utility or setting that can accomplish this? Thanks.
