Corrupt user profile-access to files

I have a corrupt user profile and get the message “Files are not accessible, access is denied” if I try to browse the files. But if I go to XP backup, they are there and I can back them up but still when I resore the backup, no access. Same result if I use “file an transfer settings” option. Any suggestions on how to get access to those user files?
