CSS vs. Tables

In Tony Patton’s recent article he made a case for CSS vs. Tables in page rendering. I agree that we need to push CSS more and more. However, copying/pasting his sample code into a page created a stretched image of Tony even with the image dimensions explicitly written. Why is this happening? My current browser is IE 5.5. Any ideas?
