I have tried posting in Tech Q&A,but it doesn’t want to post,so ,if some body could comment on this topic ,I would appreciate it.
I have a customer who’s ISP (Covad) has become very flakey as of late.
What I am looking to do is to set up a backup DSL connection from another ISP using ADSL as a backup method until the sDSL lines come back up.
I understand that dead gateway detection is built into Windows NT, 2000, and XP, with registry changes needed to 98 and below.
I would like to have a few questions cleared up.
1. How well does it work?
2. Does the primary router actually have to be down (non-pingable) for this to work?
3. How does one cut back over to the primary router?
A) Is this automatic or do you have to turn off the backup router and allow the workstations to auto detect the primary gateway again?
