Defrag Failing

Win2k Micron laptop fails a defrag run as soon as analyze is selected. The error is generated in a log (which i cannot find)however the display reads: dfrgfat.exe Application failed and will need to be restarted. this is followed by mmc.exe errorswriting or reading violations to memory.
