Deleting WinXP Home user account that’s incorrectly named in login window

by dm4w . Updated 20 years, 8 months ago

While bringing up a new WinXP Home Edition desktop machine (Dell Dimension) and after inserting a password for the administrator account, I created a user account for normal everyday use. Somehow this user account got renamed with a “space 2” at the end of the user account name. This user account name comes up on the Windows login window everytime the system is powered on, and no password will work for logging onto to it – even if no password is entered, just pressing “Enter”. When trying to view this account by logging on as administrator and doing Start-Control Panel-User Accounts-Users tab, the user account name with the “space 2” at the end is not there. When looking at “c:\Documents and Settings”, it contains the user account name with the “space 2”.

How do I remove this account/account name without creating problems later down the line?

Thanks for any feedback….

D.
