Hello, I’m Carl Weinschenk, a contributing writer to the CIO Community.
I attended LinuxWorld yesterday, and Dell CIO Randy Mott gave an interesting keynote. He said, in essence, if the IT community doesn’t get its act in gear, it is pushing theindustries it supports toward big problems. He used the railroad, airline and auto industries as examples. These industries didn’t “pan for obsolescence”–the name of his speech–and ended up in big trouble.
By getting IT’s “act in gear”–my phrase, not his–he means shifting resources from current issues (“keeping the lights on”–his phrase) to planning, development etc.
I’d like to do a story on this, and welcome any comments. Thanks. I’m at cweinsch@optonline.net.
