desktop window problem

On the workstations when pc is booted up the desktop window that shows pupils the program icons no longer shows. On C drive logged on as Admin in the pupil profile folder the desktop window is there. I have reimaged the 16 workstations using Imagecast but it has not solved the problem. Any help out there? I am using NT4 and the workstations are Windows 98.
