DHCP in WinNT4 Win2K conversion

by mhouston . Updated 22 years, 12 months ago

We are beginning our conversion process from a Windows NT 4.0 network to a 2000 network. We will be bringing up a

new 2000 network and will not be doing a migration. We have about 500 clients on the network. We have had a test

lab for thepast year.

Our clients have been converted to Windows XP and are still members of the NT domain. We are using DHCP for

theTCPIP configuration settings.

We plan to convert to Win2K one switch at a time. However, we are concerned about the DHCP servers handing out

the correct information to the WinNT and Win2K networks.

Since these servers hand out configurations specifically for each domain, is there any way to insure that the

correct domain information is handed out as we convert to 2000 while any systems still on the NT network will renew

with the older DHCP server?

Currently, our plans are to set up a second physical network which will isolate the DHCP servers for the respective

networks. Then we will move the clients as they are converted to the new physical network allowing the appropriate

DHCP server to hand out the information.

This solution sounds like it will be fairly complex. Is there an easier way? I would love to hear of asolution

that will allow the WinNT and Win2K to exist on the same subnet.

Thanks!
Mike
