directx 9.0 c

I heard that some vga card are not compatibile with new directx 9.0, for example geforce mx version, and that geforce fx is compatibile. Now, i have instaled a game, need for speed underground, that requires directx 9 and the game works with geforce mx. Can someone tell me more about this? Thanks.
