Domain Being Registered as Spam

I was working away today happy as can be because the day was going easy with no problems..(Unknown for an IT guy) when i received a phone call from my boss telling me that he could not send any outbound emails..After tracking it down i realized that our domain had been black listed..How do you remove a valid domain from a blacklist and what could the probable reasons for being blacklisted???
