Double installed windows

My boss’s daughter has a problem with her Dell dimension 4600 desktop. She has Win XP-Home Edition installed. She called me due to not being able to connect to the internet. I walked her thru (step-by-step) on the “repair” action. But she must have done something wrong…now she says it tells her that she has 2 versions of win-xp. I’m trying to gather all I need BEFORE going to physically fix it. She says also that she is getting an error message of an bad file titled “prjtect.exe” I can not find any info on this file. Has ahyone had this problem and know a fix for it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
