Ethernet network

by newadmin . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

I recently took over our IS department. We are setting up a second building for the holidays. Unfortunately, the building is so long that we had to split the network into 5 segments in order to keep the lenght of each segment under the 100 meter range for Category 5 cabling. This resulted in 5 hubs in addition to the router at the front of the building where our ISDN line will be connecting from our main building to this second building. However, I read that with ethernet networks, you can’t have more than 4 hubs in a chain. Is that true? If so, any suggestions on what to change? Perhaps replace one of the hubs with a repeater or see if I can have the ISDN line run into the main office instead, removing one of the hubs? This was all dropped in my lap and I have until Nov 24th to have the building up and running. Talk about pressure! Whoever has a solution, I would love to hear it. Thanks!
