excel 2002 very slow

Hi all,
I have a new dell desktop with xp pro. with office xp installed.the problem is exel takes long to respond to command, if i use the font,type, anything the programme takes long to respond.can it be because i am using a share network printer attached to win 98 computer.

please advice
