Excel crashes when VBA opena a *.csv

I have created a macro in Excel but every time the script executes the command to open a *.csv file Excel crashes. PLease can someone tell me how to resolve this. I have to change the file to a *.txt to get the macro to run which isn’t very convenient. I am also unable to locate the *.log on my C: drive to try and find out why it is happening.
