G4 DVD burner

Just got a G4 with DVD burner. Can I remove the DVD burner and use it in my PC to burn DVDs – and move a generic CD-RW drive back into the Mac? I believe the Mac DVD burner is a Pioneer AR03 or something like that. I imagine a burner is a burner – there’s nothing “Mac specific” about it.
