General Protection Error

by sdombro . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

I was installing 128-bit encryption on a computer running Windows 95 and Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2. On reboot I got a General Protection Error.

The only way to boot the computer without the error is by disabling the Hard Disk Controllers in the device manager. I can’t leave it that way because it’s disabling the CD-ROM and I need it. Everything else is working fine.

The bootlog is really short and has only loadsuccess in it, there is no loadfail. It seems that the bootlog does not have the time to record the error.

I tried to reinstall the controllers by deleting it from the device manager but it’s not working.

I am really screwed and I would appreciate some help.
