Getting External Hard Drive to Show up in My Computer

I have recently purcahsed an external hard drive. It is a Western Digital 250 gb. I am currently running Windows XP with all updates installed.

My external hard drive shows up in the device manager and if I just type in the drive (it is currently assigned under “M”), it comes up fine. But, it won’t show up in “My Computer” as an available drive.

It also shows up in disk management and I have re-formatted the drive for NTFS. It says that it is active and enabled. I’ve also changed the letter assigned to it several times to see if that would change anything.

Nothing seems to be working. Does anyone have any ideas?
