HCIT Entry level tips

Hello Eveyone,
I have a few questions as it relates to IT.

1. I am currently finishing up on my B.S. in Professional Studies, Information Technology Concentration. I am interested in going into Healthcare IT, what is a good place to start since I have no prior work history experience in the field?
2. What certifications should I be working towards?
3. What organizations should I join?

4. My current background is in Construction and Real Estate. I have been self-employeed for the last 18 years, how will employers view this in terms of employment in the industry?
5. If I want to perform Project Management in the sector how should I go about getting involved?
