Help, What is wrong with my samsung s2 hard drive?

by bustedbrick . Updated 15 years ago

Hi

I have a 640gb Samsung s2 portable hard drive. It was working fine and has worked fine for about 6 months. I haven’t plugged it in or used it in about a month though.

I use windows 7.

When I tried to use it today, windows would not recognize it. The light automatically switches on and glows blue as normal. It also makes the same normal whirring noise that it should. It doesn’t appear there is anything wrong with it, but windows just won’t pick it up.

I’ve tried all the normal things that you do: reset the computer, unplug/replug, try different ports, try different machines, try different cables. I’m all out of luck. Hell, I’ve even tried percussive maintenance, as inappropriate as it seemed for my HD.

So, my question is : what is my next step? I don’t have a clue what I would even try now, considering I can’t even get windows to do anything to it.

thanks for any responses.
