Hidden Files in W2K

I have a user running windows 2000. He noticed in his my documents folder that all of his files have hidden attributes. when you go to try and change the attributes the hidden checkbox is greyed out so you can’t change it. I gave him administrative rights and still that didn’t change anything. Please help me out with this problem.
