How do I make sense of retrieved data that was corrupted?

I recently had an acquaintance help me out of a bind. My entire drive was corrupted, and he managed to “save” my data. However, I hooked up the drive that he put the retrieved data on only to find that it isn’t in any sort of useful format at all. There are ~15,000 folders containing some 85,000 files, none of which have a name. Is there some way to make use of this data? Or did I just get a pile of junk taking up space on my drive?
