How do I work around old Bio’s?

by nacromancer . Updated 21 years, 3 months ago

I have an older Pentium 4 Hp Pavilion 510n w/ Windows XP Home, that is used as a shared system, so when I attempted to create group policies and permissions as the Administrator I found that I was not offered those options as the Administrator through the Control Panel/ Adinistrator’s Tools/ Security/ Local Policies as usual. I then tried to upgrade and or repair the system with the XP Pro Version and the system would not read bootable disks. I checked the system’s Bio’s for the bootable device configuration and it was set the way needed but it would not install the new OS or even allow me to create a partition. I tried safe mode with command prompt and it will not go there either, but rather only go to the Safe Mode Desktop. Seeing how Xp does not use DOS and it will not allow me to create or open in DOS in order to copy the Asus exe Bio’s flash file into Dos as described is there another suggested work around besides getting another HDD installing it in another machine with a DOS Partition and coping the Bio’s flash exe from Asus for this particular MOBO and then installing that HDD into the older machine, or is it even worth all the hassle?
