I have a new desktop built from components:
Intel DP35DP main board (several USB 2.0 but no PS/2), Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, USB keyboard and mouse, Sparkle 512MB PCI-e 16x Graphics and last but not least my Windows XP Professional (2002) installation CD.
The USB keyboard works in my startup (pause/F2 etc.) and in my BIOS and allows me to boot from CD-ROM (LG 20X Super Multi etc….).
Initially Windows Installation loads drivers and does not require user input. Current activity shows only in status area at the bottom. The keyboard LED stays on until the status area reads “Loading Windows” or “Set-up is starting Windows” or something like that.
The next screen gives 3 options (ENTER, “R” OR F3). But the much needed USB keyboard is suddenly not recognized/supported/enabled. Powering off and repeating the procedure turn up with the same result.
Windows XP Professional installation process disables USB keyboard and prevents installation . There is no PS2 port, so my options are limited.
If I know for sure that Windows Vista will not have that issue, I’m willing to ignore advice against Vista as viable alternative to XP Pro.
Please advise.
